My Process . . .
Finding Inspiration in Every Turn
When it comes to my creative process, I truly follow my heart. I let my mood and my materials mingle and set them free to speak a project into existence. I may see a color palette forming as I scan my fabrics and paints. I may see a gap in my existing home décor and excitedly create the perfect complementary design. No two projects are ever the same; thus, the creative adventure is never ending.
Everything I create is designed, cut, sewn, painted, or photographed with my own two hands. I often use deadstock, thrifted, vintage, and reclaimed materials, so I carefully consider how to make the most of each square inch as I work. While this material selection could feel limiting, I'm invigorated by the constraints. I love giving new life to these items and adding another chapter to the story they get to tell.
What does my process mean for you? It means you hold in your hands something truly your own. Truly unique, just like you. It also means you're contributing to the world of sustainable, handmade artistry, which will quickly fade away if we let it. Today's culture of instant gratification and cheap overproduction strips the joy away from well-crafted items that are worth waiting for.
Most of my creative time happens in The Loft, also known as my happy place. If I'm cutting fabric, it's on an old metal table (a delightful Craigslist find). If I'm sewing home décor items, I use my trusty Brother sewing machine and serger. A painting project leads me to my tilted drafting table and my broad assortment of acrylic paints. Fabric awaits me amidst an industrial mail sorting station that has abundant shelves and the most gorgeous patina.
Ah, what joy! And I firmly believe that a joyful creative environment produces joyful results!
